Commence your journey after breakfast as we venture towards the desert town of Merzouga through Ifran, affectionately known as "Little Switzerland" for its exquisite beauty within the Atlas Mountains. En route to Merzouga, we'll pause at the Cedar Forest, the largest in Morocco. Lunch awaits in the town of Midelt before our journey continues through Ziz Valley, passing by Tizi n Talghamt pass, Errachidia city, and Aoufous, culminating in our arrival at the Sahara gateway, Erfoud. Renowned for fossils and the international date festival, Erfoud sets the stage for the afternoon arrival in Merzouga. Check into your accommodation amidst the golden sand dunes and feel the warm welcomeness of the exotic Sahara Desert.
Discover the magic of Merzouga, hailed by its visitors as one of the world's finest destinations. Merzouga's enchantment stems from Mother Nature's gifts, including the mesmerizing sand dunes of 'Erg Chebbi.' Venture to the village of the black-skinned people, where the authentic Gnaoua music will captivate you. Explore the lake of Merzouga, also known as the 'Lake of Birds' and a charming treasure of the Sahara. Return to your riad/hotel for lunch. In the afternoon, embark on a camel trek, guided by experienced locals, traversing the serene desert as you capture its tranquility and beautiful vastness. Witness the awe-inspiring sunset from atop the dunes before reaching the camp, where a warm welcome, tea, and a tent await you. Stroll on the dunes or unwind at your tent until dinner, followed by an evening of campfire, African drumming, Berber music and stargazing.
Awaken early to witness a spectacular sunrise atop a dune before enjoying a refreshing shower and breakfast. Begin your journey towards Toudra Gorges, the highest and narrowest gorges in Morocco, offering breathtaking rocky canyon scenery with flowing water along the valley. Lunch at a restaurant, followed by exploration and wandering within the cliffs. Journey through Dades Valley, passing through Berber earthen villages en route to Skoura, an oasis with palm trees and kasbahs. Explore the renowned Amerhidil Kasbah, a 17th-century structure that has withstood the test of time. Delve into the oasis and check into your accommodation.
Embark on another exciting day after breakfast, heading to Ouarzazate, often referred to as the Hollywood of Africa due to its Film Studios. Visit the Kasbah of Taourirt, an ancient structure that served as a strategic meeting point for caravans from other parts of the Sahara and Sub-Saharan Africa. Continue to the grand Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, the oldest and largest in Morocco, a UNESCO World Heritage site with a rich history and major significance. After lunch, enjoy some free time to wander before traveling to Marrakesh through the scenic Tizi N Tichka pass in the High Atlas Mountains. Revel in the picturesque Berber villages and landscapes that stretch along the way as far as the eye could see, concluding your tour with us upon arrival in Marrakesh.
Your tour will conclude in San Francisco on Day 8 of the trip. There are no activities planned for this day so you're free to depart at any time. We highly recommend booking post-accommodation to give yourself time to fully experience the wonders of this iconic city!
Day 1 of this tour is an arrivals day, which gives you a chance to settle into your hotel and explore Los Angeles. The only planned activity for this day is an evening welcome meeting at 7pm, where you can get to know your guides and fellow travellers. Please be aware that the meeting point is subject to change until your final documents are released.
Airport transfers are not included in the price of this tour, however you can book for an arrival transfer in advance. In this case a tour operator representative will be at the airport to greet you. To arrange this please contact our customer service team once you have a confirmed booking.
This tour has an age range of 12-70 years old, this means children under the age of 12 will not be eligible to participate in this tour. However, if you are over 70 years please contact us as you may be eligible to join the tour if you fill out G Adventures self-assessment form.
